Window 95, 98 and Millennium Users
To Create a new Connection:
- Double click on My Computer
- Double click on Dial-Up Networking
(Win ME users go into Control Panel and then into Dial-Up Networking)
- Double
click on Make New Connection
- Type in Ideaone, click on Next
- Type in the dial up number for your area (do not put area code
in), click on Next
- Click on Finish
- To place this new icon on your desktop, right click once on
the icon and then click on create shortcut
- To check the settings of this new icon, go through the steps
of checking an existing connection.
To check an existing connection:
- Double click on My Computer
- Double click on Dial-Up Networking
(Win ME users go into Control Panel and then into Dial-Up Networking)
- Right
click with the right mouse button once, on Ideaone (Ideaone Telecom,
Ideaone dialup, etc.) icon.
- Click on Properties
- Under the General tab, the area code should
be left blank and the phone number should be the dial up number
for your area
- Under the Servers tab, Enable Software Compression
and TCP/IP should be checked
- Click on the TCP/IP Settings. Make
sure Server Assigned IP Address, Server Assigned Name Server Addresses,
Use IP Header Compression , and Uses Default Gateway on Remote
Network are checked.
- Click on OK
- Click on OK
Windows XP Users
To create a new connection:
- Click on Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Double click on Network Connections.
- Double click on the icon,
New Connection Wizard
- A welcome to the wizard box comes up, click
on Next.
- You should have a dot in front of Connect to the Internet.
Click on Next.
- Choose Setup my connection manually. Click on Next.
- Choose Connect
using a dial-up modem. Click on Next.
- Type the name of your ISP in
the box (ex. Ideaone). Click on Next.
- Type the dial up number, 356-1000,
in the box. Click on Next.
- Connection availability can be for anyone's use or for just
you- this is your personal choice. Click on Next.
- Type in your username
and password that you have given Ideaone Telecom. Also take the
check mark out of Turn on internet connection firewall for this
connection. Click on Next.
- Put a check in Add a shortcut to this
connection to my desktop. Click on Finish to complete the wizard.
To check an existing connection:
- Click on Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Double click on Network Connections.
- Right click with the right
mouse button once, on DCT (Dakota Central, daktel, etc.) icon.
- Click
on Properties
- Under the General tab, the area code should be left
blank and the phone number should be 356-1000.
- Under the Networking
tab, there should be a check in Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then
double click on Internet Protocol.
- There should be a dot in Obtain
an IP Address automatically and a dot in Obtain DNS server address
automatically.
- Click on the Advanced button and you should have
both Use default gateway on remote network and Use IP header compression
checked.
- Click on the DNS tab and then only thing you should have
marked is Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes and
Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix. Then click OK
out of all the boxes.
